IRC is what I would call the “ancient MSN”. Even though this is true, many people around the world still use IRC daily – whether for chatting or for downloading warez, the fact remains that IRC will never die. I for one mainly use IRC to download the latest movies, games and software releases. Pre-times can be very fast – sometimes even faster than public releases on BitTorrent.

The question is – how can you download warez through a chat client?

Simple. This is done through the use of XDCC bots. In most cases, XDCC bots are found on remotely controlled servers in places that have high-speed connections. Sometimes the server can be found in a large company or in a university nearby.

To connect to this server, you need an IRC client. Each server has a bunch of channels; one could be used to show the latest files uploaded to the server, while another one could be used for chatting. Once you’re connected to the channel you want to download warez from, you request the file you want to get from the bot that uploaded it. It then automatically gives you the permission to leech it.

Now that you’ve grasped the idea, we can begin with the guide. You’ll need to download my favorite (and the best) IRC client, kvIRC.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed kvIRC, you can start the tutorial.

Downloading From EliteWarez

There are many nice warez servers on IRC, but today we’ll be using EliteWarez as an example. You can find other warez servers through the platoon of IRC search engines scattered all over the Internet.

To connect to EW (short for EliteWarez), open up kvIRC and copy this address into the address bar:

irc://irc.abjects.net:6667/ELiTeWaReZ

Then simply hit “Enter” on your keyboard to connect.

This is what it should look like when you’re successfully connected to EW.

To search for a new movie or game, you must connect to the channel below:

irc://irc.abjects.net/#elite-chat

Once connected, use the “!search” command to search for files or you can use the “!latest” command to view the newest releases.

After finding the file you want to download, copy the link beside the release name into the chat box and press “Enter”.

You should get a small window asking what you want to do. Just click “Accept” to start downloading.

Choose where you want to save your file.

Almost immediately after you save the file, a new tab should open showing you the overall download progress.
